It is only because of powerful personal experiences that I’ve been able to create a curriculum and vision that guides women to face and transform the cultural experiences unique to the Asian-American community.
I know what you’re going through right now because I’ve been there – feeling suppressed and invisible, forever reaching for an elusive state of happiness.
Growing up in a shame-based, achievement-oriented, non-demonstrative family and culture has caused us to overachieve while undervaluing ourselves. As a young adult, I had already developed such a crippling need for people approval and validation from my achievements that I didn’t know how to slow down and enjoy life. I earned respectable titles, and enjoyed financial stability, but I didn’t feel accomplished or fulfilled. I tolerated bad treatment from my family and my co-workers and bosses, and their criticisms caused me to doubt myself even further. I felt I wasn’t “reaching my full potential” and I was unhappy, stressed out.
I’ve “shamed” my family by not attending medical school after graduating with a BSc in Biology from Stanford. Instead, choosing to stay at home and raise four children (and not one, but three sons!). Even at home, perpetual achievement and the need for validation was steeped within me.
After a heartbreaking divorce in 2013, I joined the workforce in Silicon Valley, where I became known as a successful business development professional coveted by CEOs for my ability to launch sales efforts at early stage startups. While leading her company in huge wins and gaining partnerships with companies such as Google, AT&T and FedEx, I continued to never feel as though I was enough.
Seeking external answers, I attempted to prove my worth by frantically pursuing an MBA, though as my stress levels mounted, my goals were halted by Stage 2 breast cancer.
Serendipitously, six months of intense therapies rewarded me with the gift of self-worth, as I worked to release soul-crushing expectations accumulated from a lifetime of cultural experiences.
Upon reframing cultural norms and leveraging them to create a more meaningful journey to success, I landed a highly visible role directly assisting the top C-executives in the supply chain world. Astonished by the fact that the only change required to reach my newfound level of accomplishment was a belief in my self-worth, I knew that no external MBA, title or leadership seminar could do what a new mindset had done.
Urged by friends and colleagues to share my story and discovery with others, one question kept her up at night: "If you had one left year to live, would you be happy doing what you are doing now?" The answer was to fully step into my life and thrive as a respected speaker, coach and happy mother to my four children.
In order to transform from a place of feeling suppressed by ceilings and cultural expectations, you simply need the RIGHT cultural specific leadership training that will get you moving quickly up in the career ladder and progressing into happiness and fulfillment in all areas of your life.
Happiness will continue to be elusive until we stop beating ourselves up and holding ourselves back…though closing the gap between our beliefs and potential is no easy feat when we’ve spent our lives immersed in an inferiority complex.
It took me 3 tumors and a divorce to come into the realization of how I could flourish. I want to save you the pain of having to go through great adversity to reach the point of personal transformation.
Today, you and I begin the transformation of External Expectations into Internal Integrity.
